Course information
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid Course is designed as a 14 hour course. The course is designed to be conducted in 6 modules; however, the delivery format is flexible.
The course covers
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social and emotional wellbeing
- Mental health first aid interventions in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The course also covers the mental health crisis situations of:
- Suicidal behaviour/thoughts
- Panic attack/Acute stress reaction
The on-going mental health problems covered are:
- Depression
- Anxiety disorder
- Gradual onset psychosis
- Substance misuse
