Panic Attacks
- The symptoms of a panic attack and a heart attack can be similar. If you do not know what is wrong call an ambulance.
- If possible, help remove person to a quiet, safe place.
- Help to calm the person by encouraging slow, relaxed breathing in unison with your own.
- Be a good listener, without judging.
- If you know the person is having a panic attack and not a heart attack, reassure them with this information.
- Explain that the attack will soon stop and he or she will recover fully.
- Assure the person you will stay with them and keep them safe until the attack stops.
