Mental Health First Aid International and legalsuper partner to expand mental health skills across the legal profession

19 August 2026: Mental Health First Aid International is pleased to welcome legalsuper as its first Corporate Partner, working together to build mental health capability across the legal profession. The partnership will support more legal professionals to recognise, respond to and support people experiencing mental health problems and crises.

The three-year national partnership positions legalsuper as MHFA International’s exclusive Legal Industry Partner, supporting initiatives to increase mental health awareness, promote early intervention and expand access to evidence-based education, training and resources for legal professionals, employers and future practitioners across Australia.

Angus Clelland, CEO of MHFA International, said the organisation was proud to partner with legalsuper to improve access to peer-to-peer support throughout the legal sector.

“Legal professionals work in demanding environments where psychological wellbeing is critical. legalsuper has a strong track record of supporting mental health education across the legal sector, with almost 900 legal professionals trained in MHFA since 2019 through their industry partnerships.

“This partnership gives us an opportunity to work alongside legalsuper and the legal sector to make Mental Health First Aid training more accessible, while supporting the profession to embed these skills into workplaces, professional development and the next generation of legal practitioners.”

Paul Northey, Chief Member Officer, legalsuper, said:

“Mental health is one of the most complex and growing challenges facing the community, including the legal profession. Its effects extend beyond mental and physical wellbeing, often impacting financial wellbeing through reduced productivity, lost income and increased financial stress.

Through our partnership, we are helping Mental Health First Aid invest in early intervention across the legal industry, equipping individuals and workplaces with the skills to recognise when someone may be struggling, respond with confidence, and support each other before issues escalate.”

Over the next three years, the partnership will support national communications initiatives, sector-specific education opportunities and collaboration to strengthen mental health capability across the legal profession.
